A Travellerspoint blog

Wow, i'm here!

I made it! Long flights but not terrible. I met a nice woman on the overseas flight which helped pass the time. I arrived at 4:30 pm. I was so glad to see my name on a sign at the airport. The tour company took me to my hotel. It was a lovely drive and the sun is shining and it is warm! I got checked in and changed clothes and decided to go for a walk to see what I could see. Rick Steves warns travelers that the shop owners are very agressive so you may have to be a bit rude. I started my walk and the first shop I walked by had an owner outside and he started asking me questions. I was a bit leary at first but he seemed nice and sincere and not pushy.. He asked me to help him write an email to someone in the states. Again I was leary but agreed. He made me tea and we just sat and talked. Then he closed his shop and walked me down to the mosque where he goes. It was a Christian Church long ago and converted when the country turned Muslim. It was beautiful. He was so nice and so I had to buy pashminas from him. He actually wanted to give them to me! He really likes me and wanted to meet later for a drink. I told him truthfully that I am going to bed early since I have been up for two days. The tour starts tomorrow.
